Does anyone know when they will be releasing a version of the Desktop
Search which will address problems such as:

Shared Indexes rather than each user requiring thier own?
Storing Indexes on Network shares

I do not know, there was a Microsoft employee in here yesterday - Brian
Paddock - who was answering some questions but this one I don't know about
and I don't see answered anywhere else. I'd suggest leaving a comment via
this link:

It's a good idea as well as being able to distribute it remotely (with
settings) more easily which also seems to have been asked about a couple of
different times. All-in-all, once the initial indexing has been done, it's a
pretty decent application.

From what I understand desktop search is for the desktop, each user will
have their own index on local drives. Indexing Services will be deprecated.
For users wanting enterprise level searches there are two options:
Sharepoint Team Services which will index local web sites; Sharepoint Portal
Server which will index local and remote data sources.
