Hi All,
im running a 2003 R2 domain with a single enterprise CA in AD-
integrated mode.

this has been running for a few years quite happily. I went to issue a
new cert today and got "The RPC server is unavailable".

Sure enough, the service was running, the CA admin tool opens fine and
reports no issues (can create new templates, revoke etc etc)

There do not appear to be any events regarding the CA, with the
exception of the "started" and "stopped" sucessfully messages. There
are no firewalls between any clients and this CA.

Im sure this is something simple, but it has me a little stumped - any
ideas ?

Solved my own issue... (or found a kb article to help me along the
way)

After turning logging up to verbose, i noticed my 2008 servers were
logging an error (the 2003 servers werent), which led me too....

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947237

1) The article suggests this will only effect Vista (and i assume
2008) machines, which wasnt my experience
2) if the group specified doesnt exist (which it didnt for me) - it
must be created as domain local, global or universal will cause the
service to not start.
3) it only worked after a reboot, 3 stops/starts of the service did
nothing for me.
