Win2003 Server automated password changes. What about Mac clients Roger Smith III 03-07-2008

We have a Windows 2003 Server that is used as a file server. We change user
passwords on the server user accounts monthly. I know that by checking off
the "require user to change password at next login", we can automate this
procedure, but the last time I tried this, my Mac users weren't able to
complete the password change.

Is this true? Can Mac users who are connecting to a 2003 Server share use
this method for changing passwords?

Thanks

The better question is can you use the "Force User to Change Password" if
people are connecting to shares on the server instead of logging in locally?
It seems that this won't work with PC clients NOR Mac clients.

If not, is there an easier way to get people to change their server
passwords without having an admin take care of this manually?

Thanks

No. "FU2CP" is short for "FU2CP the next time the user logs in".

Well, why not do something that requires them to actually logon to the
server?

Sorry to be dense, but please define logon to the server. In my case, when
the person tries to connect to a share on the server from a client Windows
computer using credentials that have the Change Password setting checked,
they are unable to supply a set of credentials (username and password) that
will allow them access to the share. If I clear the Change Password box,
then they're able to attach to the share with the username and password just
fine. They never get prompted to change passwords.

If they log on by actually sitting at the console or using Remote Desktop,
then they're prompted to change the password.

Thanks

What kind of thing would require someone to logon to the server? Connecting
to a share doesn't seem to do it.
