Probably the best site to search for answers to that is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php. It does get pretty geeky, and I
am not fond of the search feature. It finds the thread that your words are
in, not the post. You can Google or Live Search for '[your carrier] soft key
re-assignment', or something of that nature and often it takes you to the
xda-developer post. There are third party apps that provide a user interface
for changing the soft keys as well, though depending on your carrier and
phone, you may have to play a little to load apps.
