I have a VWireless 6700 now that synch's to my SBS Exchange server. One of
the problems is that the 6700 is not longer supported to be tethered to my
laptop. So I am looking. VWireless is NOT saying anything about what
devices will support Mobile 6 and they appear to be about $40/month more
expensive so I am looking around.

I ordered a Cingular 8525 but that was a bust! The Cingular ("The new
AT&T") 8525 wouldn't even sync with the desktop, without hanging up on
something I suspect that's it the 3 tiers of folders under inbox which works
on the VWireless device. One of the great Cingular techs said "Well, since
you can get to www.purple.com it proves that the network is working it's
Microsoft's problem. Some people are just too lame! I was trying to sync
with the desktop to put the cert on the device so I could get to the Exchange
server, what does www.purple.com have to do with the USB synching that wasn't
working? An other Cingular tech asked why I call technical support when I
should have called data support. Now his response to the problem was an
immediate "Oh you can't have any folders under Inbox." Which came too
quickly to be thoughtful. So the return labels are on the and Cingular ("The
new AT&T") can have their stuff back. Too bad because the 8525 appears to be
a nice phone.

So back to the question. What's a good carrier and which is a good smart
phone? I want to sync with my Exchange server and use the phone to connect
my laptop to the internet now and again. And have a know upgrade path to the
Windows Mobile 6. It seems like a such a simple request, but the answer
eludes me.

Thanks,
max

Well, T-mobile has the cheapest data plan around with voice. It's $30/
mo on top of any voice plan you have. You get unlimited Internet on
your phone and teethering to you laptop as well as access to T-Mo's
hotspots (Starbucks, Kinkos/Fedex, Borders). The downside is that
EDGE speed on the phone is the slowest compared to Sprint and
Verizon. As far as Smartphones, the Dash is supposed to be great and
the Win. Mobile 6 is avaiable for it.
