Where to get DBD::pg for Windows? Piotr B. 01-12-2005

Hello,

I want to make use of a Perl script "ora2pg" (Oracle to PostgreSQL
schema converter), which requires the following modules:
DBI, DBD::Oracle and DBD::Pg.

As I don't use Perl on a regular basis, I've downloaded and installed
ActivePerl 5.6.1.638 (Windows). Then, I installed DBI and DBD::Oracle
using the PPM utility. But, unfortunately, I couldn't install DBD::Pg:

PPM> install DBD-pg
Install package 'DBD-pg?' (y/N): y
Installing package 'DBD-pg'...
Error installing package 'DBD-pg': Read a PPD for 'DBD-pg', but it is not intend
ed for this build of Perl (MSWin32-x86-multi-thread)

How to solve this? Where to get the module? I've tried installing
ActivePerl 5.8, but its PPM doesn't find DBD-Pg, neither DBD-Oracle.

Thanks for help!

I you are going to download the module then install make sure you grab
the module from 6xx build for 5.6.1

From http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Downloads/ActivePerl/PPM/Repository

DBD-Oracle

Unfortunately, Oracle no longer provides the Oracle client libraries for
free. ActiveState was also explicitly forbidden by Oracle from
distributing PPMs that dynamically link with client libraries users may
already possess. Therefore, we can no longer provide a PPM for
DBD-Oracle. The DBD-Oracle package for the PPM included with ActivePerl
5.6 is still available in the ActiveState PPM repository; it is the last
package we compiled before the licensing changed.

If you wish to compile this module locally, the source may be obtained
from http://www.cpan.org. For instructions on using CPAN, see
http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Reference/Products/ActivePerl/lib/CPAN.html.

If you are using Windows, an easy workaround might be to use DBD-ODBC
instead.

Hi Folks

You can FTP to ftp://ftp.esoftmatic.com/outgoing/DBI and log in as anonymous,
and you'll find sub-dirs per version of Perl,
and PPMs for Oracle.

To install these recent versions of Perl, try
