One of my machines (not quite a laptop since it is a Acer Power 1000 but
close enough!) uses a thinner type of SATA Hard disk (close to 0.4inch I
believe) from Western Digital. (see >
http://www.wdc.com/fr/products/Products.asp?DriveID=233).

I am having trouble finding a supplier for disks of that type. Does
anyone know a source (please spare me ebay)?

I cannot find any way to contact Acer nor WD by email, both make
carefully sure not to be bothered by customers ...

Thanks

According to the specs, this thing is 26.1mm thick .... that is a
standard [US] 1-inch DESKTOP hard drive. They are readily available
(320GB, 7,200rpm, 16MB cache) and I can buy them at Sam's Club for about
$80 [US dollars].

This contradicts your description of the drive as "thinner" (0.4 inch),
but the specs that you linked to give the thickness as 26.1mm, which is
more than twice 0.4 inches.

Barry,

You are right, I goofed with regards to thickness. Thanks.

The new 2.5 inch SATA drives are, indeed, about 3/8" thick (9 mm). These
are being sold as both notebook and desktop drives. HP is supplying
Samsung and Fujitsu drives in this format for their new notebooks and
some desktops.

Thanks for all the answers. Basically, being new to SATA disks, I did
not know what to look for and I badly underestimated their thickness.
