I've lost the contents of my DC's SYSVOL. So I intend to run dcgpofix
/target:both to reset the Domain GPO and Default DC GPO.

What specific problems might that cause? What can I do before-hand to guard
against problems?

Thanks

You can install the GPMC and see if you can backup what's there. Although
if you've lost SYSVOL that won't be much.

You can perform a restore of the System State and then mark SYSVOL as
authorative via the Burflags registry vale, if you have a good backup.

Or, if there's another DC with a working SYSVOL, you can do a
non-authorative restore of the SYSVOL by stopping NtFrs and setting Burflags
to D2 (instead of D4 - authorative) to re-replicate the contents from a good
partner.

Here's the key:

Key - HKLM\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ NtFrs\ Parameters\
Backup/Restore\ Process at Startup
Value - Burflags
