The backup option was left off the new version of Active Sync. I use the Sprite
Backup program that came with my smartphone. I back it up to the micro SD card.
In case my smartphone is lost, I regularly back up the phone's micro SD card to
my laptop. That way, I could buy a new micro SD card, put it in the replacement
phone, and restore everything back to the phone, using Sprite. In addition, I
use a free prgram called PIM Backup. It backs up and restores appointments, call
logs, contacts, messages, speed dials, and tasks.
So, now I'm covered against loss, theft, and phone failure.
