Hello,
As I read about the attempt by Microsoft to take over Yahoo to compete
with Google, I wonder: what is google?
Is this nothing but a search engine? A piece of software?
True, in the beginning Yahoo would search for terms, while Google would
search for terms that had also been successfully searched for...
But in the long run, both companies are just a piece of software.
Now while *I* cannot write a search engine, I *believe* (and there may be
my operative and misguided understanding), someone, with modicum of funds,
could easily write one.
Some might say "but Yahoo/Google" have amassed a data base of searches
that make the search easier. But, could one not then argue that sites
change: a site here today could be gone tomorrow?
So, I ask... what is google or yahoo that it is worth so much money?
At least HP MAKES computers, INTEL MAKES chips.
What is Google?

Of course.
And many have tried, including Yahoo! and Microsoft
The trick is to build the BEST search engine.
Currently, that's Google.
"Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door"
Until then, sniping at Google is a waste of time ;o)

OK.... so now I think about Cold War spy movies/novels where
the premise was "get the secret formula before the commies do..."
Or some other such silly premise.
Today... the "thing" to get is a software algorithm.
Still, the whole thing strikes me as a case of "the emperor and his
clothes."
For if I use alta-vista or google, or yahoo... I still get the same
major sites that interest me in 99.99% of my searches.
Today (maybe not when google first appeared, but TODAY), they all deliver
the same punch.
So it seems to me that today, the premise is "get the secret algorithm
before their stock goes up even more..." However, the only difference is
that today, we seem to know that the algorithms are really all the same.
I still cannot fathom why google stock is worth so much other than simply
because everyone just thinks it is.

"99.99"? No you don't. Not even close.
Go do a few searches (and not just in your niche).
Then rephrase your whinge a little.
Google is superior, partly because it keeps spam out - not perfectly - but
better than its rivals.
Is that what hurts you?
What REALLY upsets you about Google?
Do share, and we can have a sensible converstaion.
I can't sit here correcting 1001 misdirected attacks, one by one.
Get to the point, huh?
