I recorded a short 90 sec. video using my Toshiba built-in webcam.
The quality of the video is not that good....I guess that is typical
for small webcams, but....the file size for the 90 sec clip seems
extremely large at 377MB!!! Is that typical? Short clip, low
quality, large file? It's even hard to email that size of a file which
I thought was one of the features of the webcam. Any comments.

Thanks,

bj

It depends on the format of your video. If you outputted an .AVI in DV
(Digital Video) format, 90 seconds would use about 377 MB. DVD format
(MPEG-2) would be about 1/10th of that ,and MPEG-4 format (such as Divx
& Xvid) would be about 1/60th of your 377MB.

Formats such as .WMV could be even smaller and can be created easily
using the free MS Windows Movie Maker.

Thanks Tom,

Doesn't look like I have an option to change to another format, so I
guess I am stuck with .AVI. Do you know what the advantages of .AVI
are? Would you have any suggestions on how I could change format
from.AVI to perhaps MPEG-2?

Thanks,

bj

.AVI is not a format - it is a container. An .AVI file can contain video
in one of a number of different formats. In your case, from the
information you supplied it would seem that your .AVI is a DV (Digital
Video) file.

To convert this to DVD as you suggest would require you to purchase a
conversion program.

As I said before, if you are using Windows XP-SP2 or later you can
covert your video with the included Windows Movie Maker and obtain a
much smaller file to email.

Hi Tom...thanks again

I have Windows Vista Movie Maker but it rejected the video based on
the low quality of it so I guess I'll just use the webcam for what it
was intended....video conferencing....and not try and make little
video clips and using it as a video camera which it is obviously not.
