Compare the large bright blotch to the right of
the claimed water flow on the newer photo
with the older. It is brighter. There is also
a dark line to the left of the blotch on the
old photo which appears as light as the claimed
water flow in the new photo. Can all these be
water flows or is it just the lighting?

Yes, it could possibly be something to do with the lighting. It could be
water. It could have been liquid something else. It could have been
something related to the soil structure. Until we put something there that
can actually read that it is water, we won't know for sure. There are a lot
of folks hoping its water, including the folks interpreting the photos.
On the next set of photos, it looks like the surface has actually gotten a
little smoother between the two. Again, that could be lighting, but some of
the craters look less obvious than they used to.

Well, they sure were trumpeting it as "WATER FLOWING NOW!!!"
There may be some frozen water or CO2 frost there reflecting
light which wasn't picked up in the older photo, but the
case for water flowing in the last few years appears pretty
weak to me.
Excuse my cynicism, but it appears to be someone trying to
justify their job after the MGS disappeared rather than
genuine science.

Take a look at this image and you can see
that its not the lighting. You can see
exactlly where the flow started and
the fracture the opened during the event..
