WMP to WM5 Video Sync Transcoding Resolution Solution Umbrage 03-25-2006

I had been searching for over a week for the answer to this problem:

When using WMP10's sync features to put video on my Cingular 2125, it
would always transcode it down to something like QQVGA - 160x120 or so.
This looked suitable in windowed mode, but in full screen, the native
resolution would show its true colors, and would play at the size of a
postage stamp.

Now I know that WMP doesn't stretch / zoom video to fit the screen, but
that's not the point--I don't want to stretch a 160x120 video to twice
its size when the source video was well beyond the 320x240 that my
screen can handle.

For some reason, the Smartphone defaults have always aimed really low,
at least on ones I've used, for my so-called quarter-quarter-VGA
resolution. There is a (presumably) well publicized solution for WM
2003, outlined by Mr. Ludington here:

http://www.jakeludington.com/smartphone/20050727_change_smartphone_video_preferences.html

but those of us with the latest and greatest realize that these
registry keys do not exist in WM5, nor do they do anything if they're
added.

While looking for advice on ROM flashing (hey, what else am I going to
do with my erstwhile Audiovox SMT5600?), I came across this little
tweak:

Simply put: this allows you to control the maximum (and minimum)
resolution of a video when it is transcoded by Windows Media Player 10
during a sync with a WM5 device.

I think a lot of people have been looking for this online but were
unable to get any help (a really popular, and completely useless
solution was: use TCPMP, because it zooms in on video), so I thought
I'd post it here for everyone. And for the record, TCPMP is a
fantastic player, better than WMP, and I'll certainly use it to view
the movies that I sync with WMP on my desktop, but this is finally a
solution for those of us that don't want to copy files over by hand
after transcoding by hand.
