Wow

What a pain...
I see your problem... your version of Media Center indicates you only have
Update Rollup 1 for MCE2005...

So two things you need to do...

First, ensure the ident value is correct for your version of Media Center
I guess you'll have to do it manually...

Open regedit
Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media
Center
Edit the Ident value to 3.1

Once you've done that, you'll need to install Update Rollup 2 for MCE2005

This is available at http://support.microsoft.com/KB/900325

Reboot as necessary, and then goto windows update to get all the other media
center updates.

Then Install Media Player 11.

Hopefully that goes through without a hitch.

Thank-you for your responses.

According to my Registry Editor, it looks like the “Media Center” folder
does not have any value for “Ident”.
I hope I am looking at the Registry Editor correctly.

On the left pane, I am highlighting the folder “Media Center” (which is
under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\”).
On the right pane, I only see two variables:
1) Name: (Default); Type: REG_SZ; Data:
(value not set);
2) Name: TunerContentRate        Type: REG_DWORD Data: 0x0000003c (60)
The right pane does not have a variable named “Ident”.

On the left pane, under “Media Center”, there are four subfolders:
1) Display Settings;
2) Remote Controls;
3) Service;
4) Settings.

None of the four subfolders contains a variable named “Ident”.

Does your news reader suppress attachments?

Copy the following lines between the ****'s (but not the ****'s)

********************************************
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media
Center]
"Ident"="3.1"

********************************************

Open NotePad with a new file, paste the above 4 lines into the window,
save it in some directory (that you can find again) with filename
"Tsang.reg", double-click the file and allow it to be incorporated into
the registry.

I chose the name to honor Jason Tsang; you can replace it with
anything, but make sure the extension is still .reg.

Note: the third line is long. If it has wrapped to two lines in your
editor make sure that the line starts with "[HKEY" and ends with "
Center]". There is a space before the C.
