Whenever I try to import pictures using WMDC6.1, it fires up as normal but
then stops whilst trying to import the first picture. Eventually, I get an
error message "Data Execution Prevention closed WMDC".

I have tried soft and hard resets to my PDA, and have uninstalled and
reinstalled WMDC6.1 - no change.

I have noticed that when I start importing, WMDC always says that it is
importing one more photo than is actually in the PDA - eg if there are three
photos in the PDA it will say that it is importing four.

Does anybody have any idea how to reset this?

I finally found the solution to this, so for the sake of future googlers
here is what I did.

First I tried to turn off DEP for WMDC by delving into control
panel/system/performance settings/DEP. But guess what? Microsoft don't let
you turn off DEP for WMDC. So the only solution was to turn off DEP entirely
by following this advice:

http://vistasupport.mvps.org/disable_data_execution_prevention.htm

Now doing as he says does turn off DEP - but it also screws up loads of
other stuff so be warned - take a back up!

With DEP switched off, I was able to run the import feature on WMDC and
import the pictures.

I then turned DEP back on using the same advice as above - but it turns it
on for EVERYTHING and you can't even open Internet Explorer anymore. I tried
to turn off DEP just for IE - but this does not work either. SO now the only
solution is to have DEP switched off for the entire computer.

Having imported my pictures, I think the problem may be that DEP thinks a
jpg movie is an executable and I think that this was what was blocking the
import - but I am not sure as I can't be bothered to mess around with this
crap any more and I have left DEP turned off permanently.

What a load of crap Vista is!!!
