I use WMDC on Vista + Office07 and until yesterday I could successfully sync
both with USB and BT perfectly (the only problem was that it was slow).
Today, I cannot sync and the following happen:
- On PPC I see (View status) and the support code inside is 0x85010014
(Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop)
- On my computer, a message pops up from WMDC saying that "Synchronization
cannot be started because you cannot log on to the network...."
- At the same time event viewer shows a security audit failure event as
follows:
ID 5032
Windows Firewall was unable to notify the user that it blocked an
application from accepting incoming connections on the network.
Error Code: 2

I have tried the following:
1) Disabled firewall - the event was not recorder then but the problem was
the same (Same messages)
2) Deleted partnership both from PC and PPC, re-established sync partnership
3) Uniinstalled WMDC and re-installed
4) Tried to sync with USB instead of BT

Several resets, restarts, repeated the above steps many times, but no good.

After many-many hours, MS Office07 Diagnostics (Detect&Repair replacement)
did tyhe job although it didn't find any problems to repair.

Andreas,

I want to REALLY thank you for your diagnosis and recovery from this
situation! It has saved me hours of troubleshooting.
What happened here was, for security reasons, I decided to change the
password protecting the device. After that the unit would not sync anymore
and would not give me any good errors. Only after I deleted my partnership,
re-booted then I got the nework error you described. I ran the diagnostic
you suggested, found no errors but the unit then started syncing.
This situation is no joke - I rely more and more on Windows Mobile to
maintain contacts and appointments - MS should really look into this!

Again, many thanks!

Charlie...
