After deleting everything under the sun, I tried to install WMDC 6 but the
said I had Vista 64, so I had to load the latest 6.1. Now when I plug in my
TyTN II mobile 6 on Vista 64 Ultimate I do not even get a Beep even thought I
got the right driver installed (grumble grumble). Clearly the device is just
not recognize, no beep, just the USB hardware icon with the green checkmark
show up.
Note that twice I have had this software working and for unknow reasons it
seems get worse each time it breaks.
1st time it was just a matter of going onto my PPC and
Settings --> Connections --> USB to PC and uncheck the advance funcionality.
2nd time I removed everything, used Cygwin to get ride of locked files and
reinstalled and life was good again.
3rd time after running Sprite Backup or possible updating some apps or
getting new AVG virus software things total broke. Now nothing works. Seems
everytime I plug in a device I have to find the drivers for it and even then
it still does not work. I have disabled the Firewall, removed WMDC, registry
keys, and manual removed files, then reinstalled
From best I can tell that after the install, that several services are down
or missing.
DCOM Server Process ... is missing
RPC is stopped
Windows Mobile 2003-based device connectivity stopped
Windows Mobile based device conectivity is stopped
and there was a whole slew of errors or warning in app.dev.log
$ grep ! setupapi.dev.log
cci: !!! NCI: (loading external data) Error 0x800F020B

..... many lines
Any solutions on how to get the services running again?
Any long term solution to help Vista 64 find its devices 1st time, versus just
pointing it to c:/windows and manuall letting it find it after it waste 3
minutes looking for who know what. (SD memory, MP3 USB Player, PPC-USB)
