I am also having the same issue and have spent over 24 manhours uninstalling,
re-installing, deleting drivers, system restore, etc, etc. Tried pretty much
every single idea posted on the web!
I'm running Vista Ultimate (SP1) and WMDC 6.1 and attempting to sync with
HTC Touch Dual. Was working fine a few weeks ago. I connected to sync and it
deleted all my data on the mobile device and then hung whilst syncing.
Can always connect okay and browse / copy / write data but cannot get Sync
Center and WMDC to recognise the device. Having said that, it has one couple
of re-installs for the first time, appears to sync but doesn't actually do
anything. Disconnect and it will then never connect to the device again.
On some re-installs, the WMDC seems to get stuck loading and a small holding
screen stating that it's starting up appears - left it overnight but still
nothing, so has to be killed in Device Manager.
Re-installed using both Windows Update and directly from Microsoft site
Have tried using v6 of WMDC
Have deleted profiles locally and on the mobile device.
Have created new user accounts to see if this works.
Have hard reset the mobile device.
Have changed USB ports
Have change USB cable
Other than re-installing Outlook and Vista, I've pretty much tried
everything! I'm reluctant to do this as the device does connect okay, so has
to be Sync Center / WMDC issue.
I'm really at my wits end with this, having had Smartphones for the past 7
years now and generally, not had any issues but this one has taken over my
life for the past 4 days!
I've just ordered a Bluetooth dongle so will see if I can sync using that.
