I have upgraded my Vista PC to SP1 RC to see if any of my previous issues
with Vista are resolved yet. Some have been but now I am unable to sync my
PDA with WMDC 6.1.

When I plug my PDA the PC recognies that the device is plugged in and shows
up as a Microsoft Network Adapater or words to that effect in Network
Adapters section of Dev Mgr.

However the PC does not recognise that the PDA is connected, USB is ok as
the device is charging while connected.

I have attached the PDA to my Vista Laptop which is not on SP1 and it works
without issue.

Both PC's have the same security software installed, namely Bitdefender 2008
Internet Security and I have made no changes to specifically add ports into
the firewall on the laptop and WMDC works fine. I removed WMDC from the Vista
SP1 system and reinstalled it but there is no change.

My brother is also having the exact same issue, I must conclude that
something with SP1 RC is amiss.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a workaround.

Have you tried this: (on the device) Settings/Connections(Tab)/USB-to-PC/
(uncheck) Enable Advanced Network Functionality?

Most of the connection problems with WM5/6 devices seem to revolve around
the fact that they now connect as "network cards" rather than simple serial
USB devices. Switching them to this older, simpler connection method often
fixes (or least "band-aids") connection problems.

I don't appear to have such an option on my WM5 PDA?

If I go into Settings -> Connections the only icons I see are as follows:

Beam
Bluetooth
Connections
Network Cards
Wireless Manager
WLAN Tool

I am stumped as I have the same issue with BLuetooth as well.

WM5 were missing the option and stuck in "network" mode. I suspect the
disabling option was added due to the number of people having problems
connecting with AS 4.x and WMDC.

If there's a ROM update available for your device, it'll likely have the
newer "USB-to- PC option. However...

...it likely wouldn't help you anyway. AFAIK, BT uses the "old school"
serial connectivity (same as if you unchecked the "advanced networking",)
so apparently you've got a different issue since BT isn't working either.
You could confim this in the off-chance you have IR built-in (or an IR
dongle) to the PC and attempt a good old fashioned slow 115k IR connection.

But I'm officially out of ideas- sorry!

Not to start a flame war, dump Vista and go back to XP. It has cost my
clienst and me tens of thousands of $$$. Cut your losses.
