WMDC - WM5 Stopped synchronizing

WMDC - WM5 Stopped synchronizing Chandresh Shah 10-02-2007

I had setup a partnership with my pocketpc WM5 and WMDC on vista. It was
working fine. I had not used it for a few days, I tried sync today, it
failed. Let me explain.

Here's my setup.
1. verizon XV6700 running WM5.
2. Vista notebook with WMDC - version 6.1.6965 (latest).

I connect the devices (I've tried both USB and bluetooth). I erased the
connection so that I setup a new connection. When I connect the device, it
recognizes the device and says 'connecting'. It keeps on trying, but does
not take me to the setup screen.

After a while, all I see is a message that says 'error' - no error code.

What is wrong?

Hi Chandresh,

Not sure whats causing the issue here since you mention it was working fine
before. Did you install any new software on the PC or the device in between
syncs?

The same thing happened to me. The last sync was on 9/28 at 1:36 PM. It is
giving me an error without any other information. Of course it is also
installing it as a Remote Adapter which is what it has done before when it
has had a problem.

No new software, but it might have automatically updated windows at some
time in there and updated wmdc...I don't know.

Hi Tim,

The updates applied can be verified if you go under Control Panel -> Windows
Updates ->View update history. But if that were the case, then a lot of
users would be complaining of the same issue.

Could you check the event viewer when you connect your device and see what
it throws up - http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/event-log.htm

Additionally take a look at
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/debug/index.htm to create the log
files. I don't know to read them but would like to take a look at them.

WM5.1 on ATT 8525
Vista on Dell Vostro 1700 with integrated bluetooth
WMDC 6.1 and downgraded to 6.0 -

Same problem ... used to work, mysteriously stopped working ... I have to
suspect a windows update (and the update to WMDC 6.1 came in during that time
frame but reverting to the 6.0 download did not fix it.

I also backed out a bluetooth driver update and that didn't fix it.

Frustrating, because my initial experience with Bluetooth and WMDC was
elation; finally something that "just worked".

I want that feeling back.
