I use my computer on a daily basis for gaming and movies. I sat down today
and pulled the dvd I was watching yesterday out and put another one in, but
autoplay didn't work. So I searched for Windows Media Center, no results. I
check autoplay settings and where WMC used to be for DVD's is now a blank
program icon with no words next to it. I tried recovering with the disk but
it was caught up on compatibility check. Is there anywhere I can go to to
just get WMC back without having to run recovery?

Run System Restore (not System Recovery) to a time before the problem began.

See, i was really hesitant about running system restore because I've heard
sketchy things from friends about it. I ran it last night and it went back to
the last saved point. When my computer needed to be restarted it would get to
the user log in screen and before I could type anything in it would
automatically restart again, over and over again without me being able to do
anything, not ever run it in safe mode(that just restart the computer at the
log in screen as well). I ended up completely reinstalling windows
altogether, which also worked albeit everything was wiped from my HD. Luckily
I had a usb seagate. WORD OF ADVICE: BACK EVERYTHING UP ON A REMOVABLE HARD
DRIVE.

For future reference, you could have chosen a different restore point.
Good for you...on backing up!
