WM6 on Dash - Switching to Vibrate permanently silences Reminders ! Vincent 05-04-2007

Hi,

I have loaded the WM6 upgrade onto my T-Mobile Dash and have a few issues.

The background ...

On the new ROM build there are only 4 Profiles available - instead of the
previous 7/8 on WM5.

These are Normal, Silent, Vibrate, Outdoor.

in the profile selection screen, the right menu allows you to edit the
settings within a profile. This is as with WM5.

However, it seems that WM6 distinguishes between Notifications and
Reminders - and that of the 4 profiles installed, only Vibrate actually has
the settings for Reminders exposed.

The problem ...

If you load the ROM and are in the Normal profile, you get audible alerts
for your calendar entries. everything is good.

But, if you switch to Vibrate, the settings for the vibrate profile get
written to the registry. At this time the Reminders sound and the Reminders
Volume get overwritten with those from the Vibrate profile.

Now, if you switch back to the Normal profile, the settings for the Normal
profile get copied back to the Registry - BUT as there are no settings in
the Normal profile for the Reminders Sound/Volume the Vibrate settings for
those stay in place.

Potential cause ...

The four profiles on the phone - Normal, Slient, Vibrate, and Outdoor appear
to be provisioned onto the phone from four XML files in the Windows folder

Normal - Normal.def.prof.xml
Silent - Silent.def.prof.xml
Vibrate - Meeting.def.prof.xml
Outdoor - Loud.def.prof.xml

If you look into these files, you will see that they contain the entries to
populate the Configuration Manager database for the Control Panel. However,
of the 4 files, only the Vibrate one contains the entries for Reminders.

Potential Solution ...

I can easily add the additional Reminder settings into the other Profile
definition files to expose all the settings. That part seems easy .

Anyone know how to run the Provisioning "whatever it is" to get it to
activate the settings ?

Thanks,
Vincent

This has been pretty extensively discussed elsewhere:

Thanks - but I am aware of the xda-developers discussions and have been
actively engaged in it.

I am actually hoping to get some comment from Microsoft on the issues.

Will be interesting to see if this is actually a Microsoft issue, or
T-Mobiles implementation of the ROM. Personally, I think it's that latter.

I created a CAB file that fixes this issue:
