I just bought a new 8925 phone (HTC Kaiser) from ATT. I previously
used an 8525 running WM6 and well and did not experience this
problem. I sync directly with Exchange over GPRS. When I set this up
on the 8925, it added not only my normal contacts that I had set up in
Outlook 2007 to my phone contacts, but also it appears to have parsed
emails and added email addresses for various To/From fields to my
contacts on my phone. WHY?!?!? How do I get rid of those? Thanks!

I'm not sure whether my solution (below) is the problem you are experiencing
but here it is anyway.

When I first sync'd my WM6 updated PPC phone, and selected Contacts, it
first displayed not only the Contact Name but also the email address in the
list of names. I normally do not like to see the email address in this list
when it is in Name order, however, there is an option to remove it.

In Contacts, tap on Menu > Options then tap on the "Show contact names only"
checkbox to tick it then tap on the "ok" button at the top right of screen.
Your list of contacts in Name order should now only display the name and not
the email address. Of course, when you open the contact details, the email
address will be there.

Regards,
Neville Lang

Yeah, I wish that was the issue, but it's not. My phone now has
contacts that
are JUST email addresses that are not stored in my contacts in
Outlook.
Many of them are email addresses for things like newsletters and
forums.
Stuff that's absolutely not a contact. Very odd.

Do you happen to use Windows Live Messenger as an IM client. When they
started this, they thought everyone would want to have all their IM contacts
in contacts. If it couldn't figure out that an IM contact was already listed
as a regular contact it created you a new entry. If you are using Windows
Live Messenger (maybe even MSN IM, I don't recall) and you recognize these
new contacts as IM contacts, this may be what happened. Not a whole lot you
can do AFAIK, but be careful deleting the records out of Outlook, as it
deletes them out of your IM contact list as well.

Answer back if it seems to be IM contacts related, and maybe someone else
has a solution I am not aware of.

No, brand new phone, nothing else installed. The very first thing I
did (After a hard reset) was to sync to exchange. I did another hard
reset
and tried again and the same thing happened the second time.
