WM5 Deleted items not removed from server.

WM5 Deleted items not removed from server. Michael 12-26-2006

Setup:

Cingular 2125 (and others, 3125, 8125..)
WM 5, Using Outlook Mobile Access (OMA)
Exchange 2003 SP2


Issue:

Item arrives in at both PC (Outlook 2003) and the Smartphone.
Delete item from inbox on smart phone and sync back to server. Indicates
syncing 0/1 items, then 1/1 and completes.

Back at PC, sync with server does not show the email was removed from the
inbox. Login from other locations like OWA still shows email as not deleted.


Deleting from the PC does update the smartphone correctly.


Any help would be much appricated, this is driving me and my boss crazy.

Hi,
When you receive e-mail on the Smartphone and then delete it, it is deleted
on the server when the deleted items are removed. Did you empty the deleted
items?

The deleted items on the phone clears out and shows none. Outlook was
showing it stayed in the Inbox. I've tried a several things since posting
and have seen it work correctly now. I went in via OWA and saw the emails
delete. I had previously tried to turn off Exchange Cached mode to see if
that helped by it didn't. In OWA I saw it work correctly and it also
instantly worked correctly Outlook (moving to deleted folder).

Here are some notes I typed up, I'll have to try it for a few days to see if
it holds up.

Connect to Outlook Web Access from your laptop.

Connect to Outlook.

Send your self an email from OWA.

Confirm it showed up on both phone and Outlook.

Delete from Phone.

Do a manual sync just to make it go faster.

Refresh page in OWA to see that it disappeared.

Refresh Outlook to see the same.



Close OWA and try sending email to yourself then delete from phone. At this
point the older emails on the phone started to delete as well.

Hi Chris, et all,

My results were not repeatable with other phones. There must be something
else keeping the phones deletions from being deleted from the server. My
phone actually works now but for no explainable reason. My boss' phone
still fails.

Pointers or suggestions? Logging, if so, what?

I found a good forum article on the subject which had me rebuild all the
virtual directories (KB883380), but it didn't solve the issue. I see the
errors in the logs now. I can't post the web log portion right now, too
much confidential stuff to clean out of the section showing the HTTP 409
errors.

So I'm looking for other ideas on how to clear up the 3005's.
