I just got a Sprint PPC-6700 as my new phone/PDA to replace my Nokia phone
and Ipaq PDA.

The primary app that I use is a time/expense tracking program that syncs
with Quickbooks for my consulting company. Unfortunately, due to the fact
that Microsoft has decided to drop the Pocket Access database synchronization
conduit (a critical synchronization component) with the introduction of
Windows Mobile 5.0 and ActiveSync 4.0, it is currently not possible to
establish a synchronization link across the desktop and mobile versions of
the time tracking software.

The software is fully operational with ActiveSync 4.0 and Windows Mobile
2003/SE PDA (and earlier) devices. The problem affects Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA
devices only, regardless of the version of ActiveSync used.

Can anyone recommend a solution?

Thankx, David.

Not at this time, no. There is new DB architecture in WM5, but there is no
conduit specifically planned for Access to the new mobile DB format at this
point. There is some possibility of an .mdb to .cdb conversion app
happening, but don't hold your breath. That means it is unlikely that apps
that currently use the AS .mdb to .cdb conversion and ADOCE support are
going to continue to work much longer. There is not even any guarantee that
a PPC app would work if you could come up with a .cdb. With ADOCE officially
gone, it's existence on a WM5 device is at the whim of the OEM.

What's happening with DB support? SQL. There is SQL mobile it is compatible
with SQL Server. Doesn't help much for individual Access users, or things
that currently use the Access format on the desktop. MS doesn't seem
terribly interested in closing that gap. Seems it is up to third parties to
fill the gap.
