This Axim 51v with WM5 came with ActiveSync 4.0.0, build 4343. It only
synchronises the contents of the device's own memory, not the 2GB SD
card that I have plugged into it. I can copy files to the card OK with
Explorer on the XPsp2 system that runs AS, but it would be good to be
able to synch the card. I can't find anything in the AS help about this,
and haven't got anywhere with Googling, since all the keywords I have
are ubiquitous on pages about Windows Mobile.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
Microsoft chose not to support synchronization of files to/from a storage
card in ActiveSync. A workaround is to look at a 3rd party application like
MightySync which uses ActiveSync to synchronize files to/from a storage
card.
