 any ideas..

i can sync the device with the desktop.. works ok.
i can't sync the device with my laptop.. i recently had a problem and had to
reinstall the ROM upgrade from O2. it's an XDA IIs and the device itself
works fine now.

i get this error when i connect the device to my laptop.

Activesync 4.5 - cannot verify the version of activesync on your device, a
program such as a firewall may be blocking a port activesync uses to connect
to your device, you may need to upgrade to a more recent version or
activesync.

when i connect the PDA to my desktop it works fine.
i have uninstalled, removed and reinstalled activesync on the laptop, still
doesn't work.

it didn't help..

i still receive the same error when i connect the device

If you are not using another WM5.0 or higher WM device, try installing
ActiveSync 3.8. You should find it here -
http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/syncsoft/activesync/

May be a bit late, but i haven't been able to find any other solutions on the
web to this problem.

My device (iMate PDA2K) stopped working after a power failure and i was
receiving the same message. I uninstalled ActiveSync plenty of times, editing
registry setings etc etc. Eventually i even wiped the device and reinstalled
from ROM. Nothing helped.

It turns out that i hadn't rebooted my machine since installing a Huawei
HSDPA USB Modem. As a last resort, i uninstalled that application/drive from
control panel and lo-and-behold ActiveSync was fine again.

A lot of people seem to be having problems syncing with laptops, so it may
be possible they have similar drivers installed.
