Our Sony computer started acting up yesterday. I am getting messages like

"an exception occurred while trying to run C:\WINDOWS\System32\shell32.dll,
Control_RunDLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\wscui.cpl" security center" and

"ALCWZRD.exe encountered a problem and needs to close". I have uninstalled
the sound card because I think the ALC concerned the sound card. I have also
tried to restore back to a few dates in the past, but it didn't fix anything
either.

I went to start, run, EVENTVWR and found that there was an error at about
the same time as we started having problems. It was "Error 611 Windows
Product Activation." when I double clicked on that a window came up that
said Windows Product Activat, Event ID 1000,, an error occurred while the
wizard was checking the current windows product license. Error Code: 4
0x80090006

Also, it looks like a windows update KB905474 was downloaded by auto update
the night before the problems started. All of our software is legal and
licensed to us.

Thanks, Shirley

If you can, try to re-download and install the WGA tool and see if it helps.
I would also suspect that something corrupted the system, not the WU's.
(Windows Update's)

As you have said, you have tried to restore the system but it still did not
fix the issue which leads me to believe that something corrupted the core
system. You could be heading to do a repair of the installation and see how
it goes. However do not go into this until we have exhausted all possible
resources.

Sorry just to add, could I suggest you remove the sound card completely AND
it's software and drivers and see what happens?
