On restart/reboot I am getting a series of dialog boxes about Data Execution
Prevention. It goes something like this.

A dialog box comes up with "Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows"
in the title bar. Inside the dialog box it says:
---
To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program.
Name: Indexing Service filter daemon
Publisher: Mocrosoft Corporation
---

The only button available says "Close Message"

When I click on that button, the dialog box goes away and another appears.
The title bar says: "Indexing Service filter daemon". In the body of the
dialog box it says: "Indexing Service filter daemon encountered a problem
and neede to close." Below that it listes the date and time of the error
followed by a request that I tell Microsoft about this error (I've done so
many times).

In looking at the data and taking screen shots I see that the Error
signature is always the same, and that the technical information is the
same.

This series of dialog boxes will happen exactly 10 times when I
restart/reboot. I suspect there is a buffer of error messages that is only
ten deep.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 w/ 2GB of memory.

Any idea of what might be causing this problem?

Thanks,
Gordon

Have you installed any additional ifilters?
I had this problem after installing a rar ifilter from citemark, on
installation for these addins you have to make sure they are registered for
WDS, if not they cause all sorts of bother.....

I have had the same issue with DEP errors - some remaining in a buffer or
something for days after I uninstalled the WDS and the filters I installed
(zip and Adobe) out of frustration. I was getting 22 error messages even
after the entire uninstall process - some error messages two or three days
old.

Now the errors have stopped - I used Norton System Works to check the
registry and I assume it took out the source of the errors. (?)

I did install the filters but they were from the WDS website. I assumed
they were registered when installed. Was there something else I was supposed
to do other than install the filters?

I like the indexing service, would try it again, but can't stand the DEP
errors that kept coming regardless of how I modified the DEP settings.

When you install the free filters from citeknet you have to follow the
"custom install" route in the installer program, this allows you to select
an option to register the ifilter with WDS. As far as I can tell, if you
just do the standard install this does not happen.

Thanks for the response. I stopped watching this string when there was no
response for two weeks (oh, yee of little faith).

The fix I found was to turn off the Indexing Service. After doing a lot of
on-line research it looked like it only was useful for speeding up the
built-in Windows search. Since I was now using WDS for that I really didn't
need the Indexing Service. I've been running this way for a week now, no
issues. I do have other additional filters (.pdf, ...).

I thought I installed the RAR filter from citemark. I ran the IFilter
Explorer and looked for RAR. It was not there when I looked for extensions
with IFilters only. It was there when I looked for all extensions. It
could be that I did not install it after all. How does one uninstall a
filter?

Thanks again for your response.
