I read through all the messages and responses.

I have an iPaq 1945 and PPC 2003. Followed all the instructions. d/l'd
WDMC 6.1 while hooked up etc.

It recognizes and syncs Notes, Files, but not Calendar and Contacts.

Now I'm scared to death. I fried my old hard drive the exact day I was to
xfer files and settings. (a/c compressor).

1. How can I back up these files to somewhere in case something happens to
my iPaq? I have backups on the storage card, but where can I use them?

2. Is there ANY way yet to sync Calendar and contacts to ANY program on
Vista. I will be happy to use the new Windows Mail and contacts, but please
tell me how to get my existing info in there.

Thanx and there will be ~1,000 batches of brownies (with or w/o walnuts) for
someone who can help this panicking person.

Hi,

I am not aware of any sync solution that will enable you to synchronize your
device with Windows Mail client. The backup created on the device can be
restored on the device only. Your best option at the moment is to try and
synchronize to Microsoft Outlook. Ensure you have backed up the most recent
changes as well and then you can attempt the following to try and get the
synchronization going.

Disconnect your device. Then try running the "Detect & Repair" or
"Diagnostics" (depending on the version of Outlook you have installed) under
Help menu of Outlook. Then under Add/Remove Programs go to WMDC and attempt
a repair of the installation. Following which attempt a sync. See if it
helps enable the Calendar and Contact options.

Ah, this I know. The problem is that now that I have officially fried my old
computer, I no longer have Outlook. And the version that I do have is 2002.
Also, unless I am reading all the other posts incorrectly, getting a newer
version of Outlook won't sync it either.

But at least I will copy my backup files, which now may be useless (I don't
know) onto my new computer.

Hi,

I have not tried installing Outlook 2002 on a Vista PC. However, if the
data is crucial you can install it since as per the following page
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm it runs except for the
limitation of not retaining the e-mail password and WMDC seems to support
it.

With respect to your comment about a higher version of Outlook won't sync
it, I use Outlook 2003 on one computer and Outlook 2007 on another and don't
have any issues synchronizing my devices with Vista.

Has there been any updates to ActiveSync using Vista WinMail and Calendar.
What product should I buy that will allow me to sync my iPaq using Pocket PC
2003 with Vista? I cannot afford to buy both a new PDA (this 1 is perfect)
and also new s/w. Thank you.
