Come on now, let's be truthful, has anyone actually gotten Vista RTM
and Windows Mobile Device Center to sync on a regular basis? 75% or
more of the it whines saying it cannot sync and asks me to reboot my
desktop. I NEVER had this problem in XP with ActiveSync 4.x. Vista
is about on it's last very thin string with me. It's so unusable in
so many ways and now it cannot sync my Verizon 6700 with their brand
new OS and their sorry excuse for a new version of Outlook, 2007. I'm
ready to dump Vista, Office 2007, and the phone for my trusty XP Pro,
Office 2003, my Kyocera 7135 SmartPhone (Palm OS), and a 10 year old
version of Lotus Organizer, all of which worked 100% of the time every
time for years upon years. This new junk out of Redmond just flat out
stinks.

Sincerely,
Brian S. Bergin

Hi,
What software do you have installed on the PC? Are you using 3rd party
antivirus, antispyware or firewalls?

Symantec Corp Ed 10.2, brand new and certified for Vista. Antispyware
and firewalls are native Defender and Windows Firewall. I've tried it
with them all disabled and still have issues. I'm not the only one.
ActiveSync was MUCH more reliable than the junk in Vista, though XP
was much more reliable than Vista in general. Time to go back to XP
Pro, Office 2003, and ActiveSync 4.5.

Sincerely,
Brian S. Bergin

You have to be careful with Symantec and 'disabling' the firewall. This
seems to actually close *all* ports in the firewall, not open then all, at
least in some versions. Before you punt Vista, you might quickly try
uninstalling Symantec and rebooting the Vista PC, then plugging in the WM
device, since that's probably faster than reinstalling an operating system.
Windows Firewall, when disabled, does open all the ports, so that's fine.

Hi Brian,

Try opening the following ports and see if that works for you. These ports
are needed for WMDC to function properly

Inbound TCP:

· 990

· 999

· 5678

· 5721

· 26675

Outbound UDP:

· 5679
