Vista cannot logon script? Murphy Wong 08-25-2007

I've a Active Directory running on a Windows Server 2003. When I use my
domain account to login a Windows XP operating system, the logon script will
mount all logical drives and map a printer for me. However, when I plug in
another harddrive with my newly installed Vista, the logon script cannot
run. Could someone help?

Maybe it does not run becouse your removable device "takes" a drive letter
that is used by logon script?
I suggest you to plug the hard drive and to manualy change drive letter to
something that is not used by the script.

Hello Murphy,

Is the Vista machine a member of your domain? If not it ofcourse will not
accept any policy.

Best regards

The problem is probably Vista and UAC. This was discussed awhile back in
this newsgroup thread:

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.scripting.wsh/browse_thread/thread/de3eaafb71e4fd3/b7595dda8c355952?lnk=st&q=&rnum=3#b7595dda8c355952

The link above refers to this TechNet article:

http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/5ae8da2a-878e-48db-a3c1-4be6ac7cf7631033.mspx

I have had so much trouble with Vista that I have not experimented with
logon scripts on this OS yet. I'm surprised I have not seen more discussion
on this topic. The two links above describe what I would call unacceptable
workarounds. I apologize for not having had the time to investigate this.

Dear all,

Switching off the UAC alone is not working. However, when I turn off the
sleep mode on system BIOS, the logon script on Vista machine seems to work
properly. I have 2 machines, one Dell Optiplex GX620 and one IBM
ThinkCentre M55, having the same problem. Also, the "blue screen" problem
is not happen so often now after switching off the sleep mode. But I'm
still not very sure about the cause of these script problem and blue screen
problems. Thanks.

Regards,
Murphy
