My movie maker will not allow an import of dvr-ms files? according to many
websites and MS help sections this is possible. Can any offer help. I called
HP and they said for 79.00 they can supposedly tell me what settings to
change to make it work. I feel after spending 1.5K plus on a new system that
says it can do something it should be ableto do it and I shouldn't have to
pay. MS help phone basically said the same thing. nice money grab HP and
MS.

You're not the only one with this problem. I'm attempting to find out more
from Microsoft so if/when I do, I'll post here...

I tried this on my Vista Ultimate box last night, and MM was able to open
every DVR-MS file I threw at it. So it sounds like some part of your install
was corrupted, maybe a DLL or something. I'm wondering if there's a way to
reinstall just the MovieMaker part...if so, it'd be on a separate tab in the
Add/Remove Programs dialog...

Just for grins, if you want to take the time and effort, download VideoReDo
Plus from www.videoredo.com - it's got a 15 or 30 day trial so you can see
if it can open the files in question. If it chokes too, then we need to look
in a different direction...

Dana,

Thank you for you r response, I went and downloaded the trial version of
vidieoredo had no problem with the format and or the editing of the program I
tried. I again called MS and they said for 59.00 I can talk with a tech, but
couldn't offer me any assistance in fixing this program . because I bought
this as a complete package I don't have a restore disc ither than the one I
created when I bought the system 4 days ago and it would be flawed as well.

I couldn't find the movie maker in the unistall programs area. so I'm not
sure how and if I can unistall and reinstall the driver.

I am becoming more and more angered, in the fact that I have spent this
money on something that is supposed to work and it doesn't. If MS and HP
were selling cars and had this kind of CS they wuldn't be selling cars for
very long. I know think I understand why people are malicious against these
companies. large price tag not CS and poor product development. I can only
image the issues ahead of me as I have only begun my journey with the new MS.

I hope you can offe me some additional help regarding this issue. as I will
only wait a few more days before return my product to the store and informing
everyone I know and even those I don't about MS and HP unwillingness to
provide products that work, to the lamens of the world.

Again ,

I would assume it's more likely an HP problem than a Microsoft problem.
Either a problem with the install image (if it never worked), or a problem
that corrupted something since it was built. Since its so new, you should be
able to return it with no problem. And it could be that the very next one in
that model worked fine, I just don't know.

You might ask again on the MovieMaker forum, where I assume they know a lot
more about Vista's MovieMaker than I do...
