Vista Media Center TV Setup: IR receiver not detected Guylain 06-09-2008

I have a HP computer with Vista Home Premiuim and a TV Tuner. Suddenly, Media
Center was not able to detect TV tuner anymore. The TV tuner card appears
correctly in Device Manager howerver. I've got a replacement card on warranty
from HP, and this time Medai Center Setup sees the TV tuner, and I can see a
preview of TV show in the TV setup.
Strangely, the Media Center Setup did not detect my IR receiver, even if I
use the remote to go there! It's a pity because I cannot terminate the TV
setup and my TV functionnality is lost.
I wrote to HP, with no help, as they recommend to do a full recovery of the
PC at his original state. To me, it's like killing a fly with a gun. It
works, but there's a lot of collaterals...
So, I know my remote and the receiver work because I can watch already
recorded TV shows with the remote from Media Center right now. And Media
Player accepts commands from the remote too. The problem is only within the
TV setup, and this prevents me to get TV live.

Anyone has an idea? Maybe some configuration in an .ini file to correct?

Are you using the MC remote to control a STB?
If yes is there any possibility that your IR blaster is no longer connected?
Is there any possibility that you may have allowed WinUpdate to replace your
TV tuner driver?

Yes, I use a STB, and my emitter (IR Blaster) is connected as before. And
just to be sure, I tried IR remote, receiver and emitter borowed from my old
HP Media Center (the IR blaster and receiver are dentical).
In the process of finding the problem with my TV tuner, HP asked me to
uninstall the TV tuner and IR devices in Device Manager, and reboot to force
reinstallation of these drivers. As my system is always up to date with
software, I suppose Vista has re-installed the latest version of drivers.

Do not assume that Vista has installed the latest version of the
manufacturers drivers. Very often drivers installed by WinUpdate or by a
Vista installation are way out of date and incompatible with other software
on the users's system.

You're right about automated installation of drivers. But I consider the
problem is not bond to drivers, because the remote works well under Media
Center menus other than TV Setup detection, and in other softwares, like
Media Player.
I think there is an corrupted configuration file in Media Center. Or maybe a
misleading registry entry. But, which one, that's the question...
