Any help offered will be greatly appreciated. I've already exhausted all
available resources. HP tech support proved to be little help as well.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavilion m8100y with Hauppauge
WinTV HVR 1800 and NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT.

I've gone through the automated and manual configure process in Windows
Media Center and have been unsuccessful in getting the TV signal recongzined.
The automated set-up process resulted in the Media Center not recognizing a
video signal (message: "Windows Media Center is unable to determine your TV
signal configuration . . . "). The manual process resulted in reception of
only channels 5 and 6 (manually scrolling through the other channels resulted
in no picture or sound)

Note:

- I downloaded the Hauppauge Win-TV application version 6 and I was able to
get all of the channels, but of course it was outside of Windows Media
Center. So the Tuner card does work.

- I've confirmed that the TV signal should work because I am able to
receive 80+ channels on my circa 1998 Sony television via the same input
(without set-top box).

- I have since had the PC replaced (hp pavilion m1800y) upon the
recommendation of HP. However, the PC is experiencing the same problem: I am
only getting channels 5 and 6 through Media Center.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Just exactly what is the connections of your cable TV RF cables. You say you
get 80+ channels on the 1998 model Sony. Have you tried connecting the same
RF cable on the back of the Sony to the Hauppauge Tuner card?

The WinTV-HVR-1800 has three RF inputs. Top one is for FM radio, the Middle
one is the standard analog TV (this is the one you should be using for Cable
TV), the Bottom one is for Over The Air Digital TV.

If you connect to the bottom connector, you may not get any channels at all,
unless the cable company is transmitting QAM on cable.

You can use a two set splitter to connect both the middle and bottom RF
inputs to one Cable.
If you have FM radio on cable, you can use a three set splitter to connect
all three inputs to one cable.

Be aware that splitters do reduce the signal strength.

Thanks for your help. But minutes ago, I made a discovery . . .

As I was just about to copy and paste my question onto HP's support forums,
I realized that they (HP) have just updated the driver addressing the signal
problems I've been experiencing. This correction was not available a couple
of weeks ago. The driver update has fixed the problem.

Anyone experiencing this issue can access the driver at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-54519-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3463405&os=2100&lang=en

If they had this driver update a couple of weeks ago, I would have been able
to save about 12 hours between calls to HP support and scouring the web for
information.

I have the same problem with my Gateway PC running Windows Vista. I
have an ASUS/ViXS Combo-210E NTSC/ATSC TV Tuner card. Only get 2
channels - 5 & 6. I know it's not the signal, because I have another
computer running Win2K with a Happauge WinTV Go PCI card, and I get Ch.
1-99. I have the most updated driver, and I don't see any "fine
tuning" application on WMC setup.
