Vista - Copy Large Files to Cingular 2125 Fails John Walker 02-23-2007

Here's my issue...I have Vista Ultimate, Windows Mobile Device Center (RTM)
and a Cingular 2125 Smartphone. If I connect my 2125 with my USB cable and
attempt to copy over some .mp3 podcast files, they fail about mid-way into
the transfer. This occurs using Windows Explorer to do the copy or using
Windows Media Player 11's sync capabilities. It also occurs whether I copy
to the storage card or built-in memory of the device.

Syncing contacts, email, tasks, etc all works fine. It's just when copying
over larger .mp3 files. This problem has been plaguing me since Vista beta
1. I have read elsewhere that this is a confirmed issue. Has anyone
experienced this? Are there any work-arounds. Until I find a solution, my
podcast listening has gone kaput :) Thanks in advance for any assistance.

John

Assuming if they are large files, you really are wanting them on the memory
card, right. Get yourself a $10 USB miniSD reader and transfer using that.
At least the slot is accessible from the top of the 2125. This may not work
if what you are transferring has copy protection (DRM), but otherwise
should.

Sven,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, with the 2125 the miniSD card is
underneath the battery in the phone. I'd need to power the phone down,
remove the battery and then transfer the files. Basic file I/O stuff should
really be working as it has been under XP since I bought the phone.
Disappointing.

Oops sorry, I was thinking 8125 for some reason. Not sure you can do much.
Large files over ActiveSync have always had some issues. Seems that may be
one of the features they kept in WMDC. :(

John, in your post of 2/23/07 you said that syncing worked, but copying large
files did not. I have a cingular 2125 and Vista Ultimate (final release retail
version)and cannot get sync to work. I can connect and see the files, but get
an error message "ActiveSync encountered an error on the desktop" and syncing
fails. Can you offer any help in getting syncing to work? Syncing work fine
with my phone under Windows XP.
