Hi. I am currently trying to set up a VPN to access my Windows 2003 Server
at work. The server not set up with a domain, it is accessed through a
workgroup.

I am connecting from a Windows XP machine, then through a Linksys Router
with VPN capabilities. I have followed the instructions from Linksys on
correct IPSEC settings, but when I attempt to access the IP address which
corresponds to the office site, the connection shows the workgroup and the
server computer, but I cannot connect to the server using my usual username
and password. Is there something I need to add to the username or password
to make this work?

Any help on this topic would be most appreciated.

If you are using your Linksys device as an ipsec endpoint [ not using VPN
connectoid] for your VPN connection then you should have access to your
network if you have a successful connection. Try to ping your lan computers
by their IP addresses to see if you have basic connectivity. If you do have
connectivity can you access any server?? What specific error messages do you
get when access is denied? Try to access a computer by its lan IP address
instead of name to see if that makes a difference as in entering
\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in the run box using the actual lan IP address of the
server you are trying to access as shown when running ipconfig /all on it.
Also look in Event Viewer/security log of the server to see if any logon
failures are recorded which may give helpful reason as why the connection is
not working. --- Steve

i see two posible problems. First you have to confure not only IPSEC, you
need to foward PPTP request as well (really is the only used), if you don't
have the port established the number is 1723 on TCP.
And after that you need to grant the user dial in rights.

Hope it helps
