 Consider this a random and unspecified gripe..

I'm starting to come to the conclusion for a second time (I already came to
this conclusion once, three years ago, then argued myself out of it) that
using the command:

install Something::Something

....in the CPAN interface is useless.

and that to save time I should just start doing:

force install Something::Something

why?

Because at least 25% o the modules I install have test files that are
written badly, down to including syntax errors sometimes. And of course as
soon as one of them fails, the whole damned install fails and you have to
run it this way anyway.

But as a general note, I would *really* appreciate it if, when people
insist on including test suites for installation (which, for pure perl
things, are kinda silly a lot of the time anyway, really), to please WRITE
THEM RIGHT so they install from CPAN without Force unless they really DO
fail something other than the 'test author doesn't check his work' test!!!!

Please please PLEASE!!!

You have been unlucky. In my experience it's more like 1%.

It may not be luck. It could be as simple a matter as my using Solaris,
where other people with less problems might be using more 'popular' OSs
like Dead Rat or something, and thus more likely to have everything work
the same.

But if that's the case, my plea does still apply, with an addendum of 'to
make sure, please get someone somewhere to test it for you on somehting
you consider weird -- if it works on your system and what you consider
arcane and unnatural, it will more likely work on the stuff in between.'
