Just got a HTC S620. I'm trying to use it as a USB modem against XPSP2. I
used to be able to "activate" the modem (on an SP5 imate), this functionality
appears to have been superceeded by Internet Sharing, on which I can click
the Connect softkey. However, XP does not see the HTC modem. What am I
missing?

Hello Ben,

If you want to use a USB cable connection, you must first install
Microsoft
ActiveSync version 4.2 or later on the computer.

Before using Internet Sharing, disable ActiveSync on your computer.

Settings and clear Allow USB Connections.

Keep me posted

Hi Linley,
Active Sync 4.5 is installed, and then the USB peice connection disabled.
I'm happy that the active synch end is working, my real issue is how to I
enable the modem on the HTCS620 so that it is seen as a modem by WindowsXP?

Ben,

When you are using the Internet Connection application on the
phone..should be on WM5 AKU version 3 and higher, the device will show
up under network adapters, not as a modem. As a network adapter it
should route the internet traffic through that internet connection
instead of through a Dial Up Networking connection. It may take a
little while for it show up as a Network adapter, but it should show
up as a Windows Mobile Internet Sharing Network Adapter, or something
to that affect. You can look for it in Device Manager or in your
network connections.

I am much more familiar with Samsung devices, and to make a device
show up as a modem you have to change the port mapping scheme on the
device, this can be achieved by doing this:

Start - Settings - Connections - USB - then select "Modem" if there is
an option there it is generally set to ActiveSync by default. While
in Modem mode it will not be detected by ActiveSync so there is no
need to disable ActiveSync.

Actually there is nothing that you need to do apart going to Internet
Sharing, make sure that USB and your internet connection are selected
in the drop lists. Then click Connect and plug in the USB cable.
