I have a Dell Laptop that I use at work with a docking station. I bring work
home every night and need to be able to use the monitor on my Dell PC at
home. How do I do this without having a docking station at home?

You connect the VGA connector on the back of the Laptop to the VGA cable of
the Monitor.
You unplug the monitor from the desktop and plug the cable into the VGA jack
on the laptop.

You do not connect the VGA connector from Computer to Computer. (The VGA
connector is an output only)

Check your Display setting on the laptop, there may be a setting to turn on
the VGA connector.

This is usually a combination of the Fn key and one of the other keys,
usually top row.
