Used Norton Removal Tool--Lost all Administrator Access Yaj 07-14-2008

Am using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (3 wouldn't install). After using Norton
Removal Tool and the computer re-booted all administrator access was lost.
Can't get access to most programs. Can't go to a restore point. Can't
access restore point through Safe Mode. When booting it sets up a temporary
admin file each time which doesn't allow access to almost everything. Went
to Start--Programs--Accessories--Rt Click on Command prompt and selected "Run
as HP-Administrator". Entered "net user administrator /active:yes. Got
"System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied."

Bottom line is no changes can be made and access to most programs and files
is denied. Any way to get access back without the time consuming process of
a standard system recovery?

(I sent this same message yesterday but got a "server is busy" message and
my post disappeared. Didn't know if it went through or not. If this is a
duplicate post--my apologies.)

Thank you for any assistance you can give.

have you checked with Norton's tech support? If it were me, I'd do a
clean install and not put Norton on the machine at all.
