Due to lack of space I am planning to upgrade one of my notebooks
hard drive but I was worried that bigger drives are sometimes not
supported by the bios.
May I know what is the maximum drive space size can can replace a 100
gigs HDD that will be supported by its bios?
Is there a tweak to on this limitation so that I can instal the
biggest drive in that unit?
TIA

There is no way to answer your question from the information you have
given (you didn't give the model number of the laptop or even the
interface type (ide or sata) of the drive). Basically, however, for a
laptop that currently has a 100GB hard drive, you are either limited to
120GB or there probably is no limit. If the drive is SATA, or if the
laptop is more recent than about 2003, there probably is no limit.
Otherwise, you MAY be limited to 120GB and below.

Barry...

Are there any less known but important issues in upgrading notebooks
harddrives that you are aware about?

You should be fine. But unless you absolutely need 500gb, I'd go with
320gb and 7200 rpm (which you can find for as little as about $60).

Thanks Barry, just upgraded it to 320 gig but as the 5400 rpm was the
one I got instead of the 7200 rpm I just went with the upgrading . It
was a seagate, and cost me nearly 50 bucks but any way...its done and
so far there was no problem except for some missing drivers that I am
still trying to find in the net...
Is there a faster way to get it done fast?
