I have a HP Jornado 568 Pocket PC. The window os says pocket pc
version 3.011171 (Build 11178). Can I update the OS on this unit? I
am using the latest version of Activesync (4.5).
However, since the time change fiasco in 2007 happened, I haven't been
able to get the 568 to update the daylight savings. Do, or even can,
or should I update the OS to Window Mobile?

If not what OS system update can I apply to the 568 so that I can
resolve the daylight savings issue? I have already updated Outlook
with the daylight savings fix on my computer. I sync between two
computers, my home one and my work one.

The answer to this sort of question is always, "That's up to the device
vendor." Windows Mobile is *not* like desktop Windows operating systems,
where the hardware for all devices is pretty much the same and where you can
buy a box of Windows XP at the store an install it. Each device vendor
customizes a significant part of the operating system to work with their
hardware, so they are the only real source for a new version of the OS. If
they don't produce one, there's no upgrade. So, in this case, you must
contact HP for OS upgrade. I'm not aware of any DST upgrades for devices
that old, but you could check the Microsoft download site for that specific
sort of update, www.microsoft.com/downloads.

Thank you for your response.
I had checked both Microsoft and HP sites. Nothing on the Microsoft
applcable and it appears the HP quit supporting the Jornado series
after the ipod came out. Luckily I can disable the automatic time
change option. So I guess I'll just have to the time change manually
from now on.

That's PPC 2002.

AFAIK, no. HP never released a PPC'03 update.

Interesting. My 2002 unit (an Audiovox Maestro) took the DST update made
for PPC 2003 wit out any problems. I downloaded it from the mobile version
of the Windows Mobile website (using Pocket IE on the device) rather than
trying to install it from my PC.

You most likely can't.

Try downloading the .cab file directly from here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/d/4/8d400259-a258-41da-884e-
24a743ccc166/WM2k23DST_unsigned.cab

(I suspect word wrap will mess that link up forcingyou to cut and paste it.)

As a last resort, you can add the DST update manually via a registry edit.
I had to do this for an old WM2003 Verizon smartphone that is application
locked, so it won't run "unsigned" apps. I found the MS Knowledge Base
article describing the new time zone registry entries and keyed them in
manually with PHM's RegEdit.

(In reality, that's all this DST patch does- edit's the time zone entries
in the device's registry, so the 2003 version should work on PPC 2002
devices as well.)
