Uninstalling Certificate Services Spin 10-23-2005

I have an enterprise CA installed on a test W2K3 domain controller (only
computer in the domain) and I want to uninstall Certificate Services b/c I
don't need/want it anymore. This domain controller has a certificate issued
to it by the CA, and I don't want errors after I uninstall Certificate
Services. So what do I do? Do I go into the Certificate Services MMC and
revoke the certificate first, then uninstall Certificate Services via
Add/Remove Programs?

In your case for a test computer just use Add/Remove Programs - Windows
components to remove certificate services and when you are done you can
remove any certificates if you wish via mmc snapin for certificates for
user/computer in the personal/certificates folder. The CA certificate would
be in the computer store. --- Steve

I'm a newbie when it comes to Certificate Services. When you say "you can
remove any certificates if you wish via mmc snapin for certificates for
user/computer in the personal/certificates folder. The CA certificate would
be in the computer store" how exactly, using the mmc Certificate Services
snapin, do I remove the certificate of the DC?

You first enter mmc in the run box to open a mmc console. Then select file -
add/remove snapin. Click add and from the list on the right select
certificates and choose the option for computer account/local computer.
Close the selection box and hit OK. Then you can open the certificates
snapin and go to the personal\certificates folder where you can view,
manage, request, and import/export certificates. --- Steve

Thanks. But in Certification Authority snapin, I see these folders:

Certification Authority (local)
-Lan1CA
-Revoked Certificates
-Issued Certificates
-Pending Requests
-Failed Requests
-Certificate Templates

In the Issued Certificates folder there is a cert issued to my DC.

What steps do I do I conduct to take away the cert issued to my DC? Once I
do that I assume I can un-install Certificate Services.
