 After a repair and a hard reset activesync works fine on my iPAQ hx4700.
But after restoring a backup activesync won't connect any more.

Giving a hard reset makes it work again.

So, which settins are wrong, or which data mustn't be restored?

Can I reinstall activesync on my PDA, without a connection in the cradlle?

No, Activesync is burned in the device's ROM- not installed from a disk.
Most likely one of the 3rd party installed apps on your device is causing
the headache, so the real solution is to hard reset and NOT restore all of
the data, but "rebuild" the device by reinstalling the installed apps one by
one and repeatedly resyncing to see if any app "breaks" Activesync. You
could restore PIM data (Contacts, Calendar, etc.) from the backup, but IMO
it's preferable to just let them sync from the PC after a hard reset (avoids
accidental duplication of contacts, etc.)

Hi,
ActiveSync cannot be uninstalled. It is installed in rom. Also, ActiveSync
stores files and registry settings on your device and your desktop that are
kep aligned. The registry settings and files are not documented so there is
no easy way to make sure you have a backup. The closest tool I have seen is
Sprite Software's Backup which can backup your whole device to a flash card.
