Is there an algorithm or database to convert the US Public Land Survey
System Township grid designations to latitude and longitude (center or
corner)?

Example input data (whatever format) T31N-R17E, Section 5, NW¼NW¼
Example output: 45.123456N 90.876544W

Is it different from state to state?

I'm specifically looking for Wisconsin but of course I'd be interested in a
general solution too.

Thanks.

Check with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources GIS group. I'm
pretty sure they had a process to do this using Arc/Info. The Indiana
Geolgical Survey uses Geographix software with a landgrid from Whitestar for
Indiana data.

Thanks, but I had to laugh when I saw your answer. Its their data I need to
convert.
But thanks again. Maybe they'll share their internal solution. :)
