I was asked by an expert on Microsoft.public.pocketPC tp bring my problem to
this forum:

Treo 700W AS 4.1 I can't seem to finish the active sync. The following always
happens:

I get the question Combine or replace:
The following information type on your mobile device has items that have
not been synchronized with this computer before. It gives me 3 choices:
1 Combine items on my device with items on my computer
2 Replace items on my device with items on my computer
3 Do not synchronize this information at this time.

No matter which choice I take, I get the following errormessage from
ActiveSync:
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device
and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync
Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your computer."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync without benefit.
I have tried Scanpst.exe and it did find & correct a bunch of errors, but
it didn't fix my problem.
One other finding. There is a game demo I loaded but can't uninstall. I see
the icon and there is a directory with the files in it but on the Add/Remove
programs utility it doesn't show up. I was hesitant to remove it manually.
Is there an equivalent to a windows registry in WM5.0.
Because it doesn't finish I can't access the Tools-> Options menu

Never mind
I did a hard reset and started over. It seems to work fine now.

Craig,

I have the exact situation that you describe above - including programs
that do not uninstall properly.
I have soft and hard reset multiple times without success.
Did you find anything else in your research that may help me?

Craig:
I am having the exact same problem - on my office computer my Treo 700w
does exactly what you had occur. On my home computer I have no issue...

Is the only viable option a "hard reset"?

Thanks for any help you can post.

I am in the same boat...let me know if you find a solution. I have done the
firewall/AV thing. I have re-installed several times... After sync hangs
for an extended period of time on "looking for changes" it will err on the
desktop. After I acknowledge the error, the palm will sync.

If you find a solution other than putting the treo into orbit...please let
me know.

Ryan
