Does anyone know how it possible to just have a phone always sync email,
calendar and contacts (and more) with my Exchange Server 2003 mailbox
through a wireless service provider (not inside the office bluetooth or
wifi, but through the phone's data service).

I do not have the opportunity to install software on a PC to sync with
Outlook or to send Outlook data to my phone. Programs like Versamail on
Palmone only sync email and calendar with the server. There are other third
party applications that seem to work, but they also seem to require separate
server installs. Having another application to install and manage on the
phone is not desirable from a support point of view.

It seems like WindowsMobile 5 with the new SP2 for Exchange is allows direct
wireless sync, but it is not clearly stated anywhere. It suggests the
process will work like a Blackberry, but how it works is totally clear.

The goal is to use a phone like the Treo 650 or Blackberry for ease of
entering keystrokes, so the closest compatible device so far appears to be
the Samsung SCH-i730. Looking at this device, however exciting it is,
appears to be using WindowsMobile 2003, without information if it is
upgradable to WindowsMobile 5.

Does anyone have something happily working along this line of thought?

Exchange Server 2003 comes with everything you need to synchronise e-mail,
contacts and calendar over-the-air (OTA) or any other connection (including
the ActiveSync on cradle).

Check this article for configuration, patches, etc:

The article also includes instructions to create an AUTD (Always Up To Date)
configuration, but you can simply skip that if you want only to synchronise
on schedule or manually.

The Windows Mobile 5 with Exchange SP2 features are explained in these two
articles:
