Hello World,
A few months ago, all of the sudden my laptop refused to boot. Here are
the only messages that are repeated for ever :
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 081)
For Realtek RTL 8139(8)/8130/810X
PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
As we can read, it tries to boot on the network, which could mean the
hard disk is dead.
The XP recovery cds say 'no drive'.
I called the french toshiba phone support, they don't give any advice,
even where the hdd is, only the address of a very expensive repairer (480
euros). Forget Toshiba support. So I bought a new hard drive and it took me
14 hours to find the hard disk (by the way I tell you for free that it is
below the laser drive).
Still I get the same messages !!
Again, the XP recovery cds say 'no drive'.
Then I tried to install linux and the setup worked (partition, install,
everything) but then.......
Again the same messages !!!
The BIOS sees the hard disk, and of course it is set to boot on the hard
drive.
So, what could it be ?
Thanks for your help, I don't know what to do, It's been a month I can't
use my laptop.
Ghislain

Looks like a setting in the BIOS that is misconfigured. You should go
in there and restore the defaults or find something that makes
reference to PXE-E61 or PXE-M0F turn em off. Looks like it might be
memory related w/ ROM mentioned. Google it, should have a few hits.

Nope, that is a typical message from Compal built Toshibas using a
desktop cpu chip and a modifed desktop bios. It means the computer is
attempring to boot from the network since it couldn't find a bootable
floppy disk, optical disc or hard drive.
