Hi folks. Perhaps some kind soul with experience in laptop
troubleshooting can give me a hand. I have toshiba 1400-s151 the hard
drive is not recognize in the bios

you could try a repair install of xp if that won't work then you need to
format and reinstall the operating system.
If that won't work you need a new hard drive. I just replaced one in a dell
with the same symptoms.
the link will explain how to do a repair install. If it works you will have
all your files intact.

What does Windows XP have to do with the BIOS? I can understand reflashing
the BIOS which is stored in the flashable ROM.

If the hard drive is not recognized in the BIOS, the problem is a lot
more fundamental than Windows, and won't be fixed by reinstalling
Windows. In fact, if the hard drive isn't recognized, you CAN'T
[re]install Windows (or anything else) on it.

The most likely cause is that the hard drive is bad.
